Sustainability

Our sustainability vision is rooted in providing healthy and fresh food while at the same time taking care of people and the planet.

It is expressed in everything we do, from working together with suppliers who are also committed to reduce their environmental footprint, through minimizing energy use and waste production in our operations and limiting the impact of our products.

There is no time to lose in keeping rising temperatures within acceptable limits.

Science Based Targets logo

We understand this very well as the agriculture and food sector are already experiencing the effects of climate change. Therefore, we also want to do our part to reduce CO2 emissions within our operations and our value chain.

We have been calculating our direct operational CO2 emissions (scope 1 and 2 emissions) from 2019 onwards and we started to calculate our CO2 emissions upstream and downstream in our value chain (scope 3 emissions) in 2024.

In 2025 we set a science-based target committing to reduce our absolute scope 1 and scope 2 greenhouse gas emissions 60% by 2034 from a 2023 base year, and to measure and reduce our scope 3 emissions. This target has been validated by the Science Based Target Initiative.

We already set significant steps to reduce our carbon emissions by improving the energy efficiency of our operations, switching to renewable energy contracts, reducing our packaging volumes, prioritizing recycled and recyclable packaging, optimizing our waste sorting and recycling and purchasing more sustainable ingredients.

Smart packaging

We are committed to make our packaging more sustainable to lower our ecological footprint and to reduce packaging and food waste.

With every sandwich and salad sold, we also bring new packaging on the market.  By making smart and sustainable choices in our packaging policy, we can improve the environmental and CO2 impact of our packaging and prolong the shelf life of our products.

With the replacement of plastic lids by films for our salad and pasta bowls in 2025, we reduced the weight of plastic packaging for our salad and pasta bowls with respectively 34% and 25%. This resulted in a decrease of the packaging related carbon emissions with 30% per salad bowl and 19% per pasta bowl.

In 2026, we plan to move from virgin to recycled plastic packaging for our mezze plates. This will help to reduce the weight of plastic packaging per plate with 29% and the carbon emissions with 40%.
